The Bottom Line? Mobility with a Kick
How? It has fast graphics: an NVIDIA RTX A1000. It has a fast CPU: a Core i9-12900H. It has plenty of RAM: 64 GB of LPDDR5 5200MHz memory. It has lots of fast storage: 4 TB NVMe Gen4 x4, Class 40 SSD. It has a 14-inch, InfinityEdge touch display with a 2560x1600 resolution.
The CPU options are the same as the larger 5-series systems: the 15-inch Precision 5570 and the 17-inch Precision 5770. The memory capacity is the likewise the same as its 5000 series big brothers.
What stands out is the optional NVIDIA RTX A1000 GPU with 4 GB of GDDR memory.
Initial tests prove that the Precision 5470 is a tiny powerhouse
The RTX A1000 is new. A first look at Viewperf 2020 places this new GPU close to the performance of the RTX A2000 that was tested last year. That is a big deal in a 1 ½ kilogram, 14-inch workstation.
With the fast NVIDIA RTX A1000, great CPU choices, 64 GB of memory, and 4 TB of SSD storage, the Precision 5470 is a welcome addition to the Precision 5000 series.

Mobility matters
Mobility is the point of adding this workstation to the 5000 series. So how small is it?
The weight is under one and a half kilograms. The Precision 5470 is a petit 310.6 mm wide and only 210.3 mm deep with a maximum height of 18.95 mm.
The connectivity options are better than you might expect with four Thunderbolt 4.0 ports a MicroSD slot, a SmartCard reader, and security lock.
As with the Precsion 5570 and 5770, the Precision 5470 ships with a Dell Thunderbolt to HDMI and USB dongle in the box.
Match up the Precision 5470 with a 4K external display for a more productive home-office workspace
Both display options are 16:10 ratio displays. The FHD, non-touch display has a resolution of 1980x1200, and the touch display has a resolution of 2560x1600.
Of course the Precision 5470 can drive multiple external monitors which provides a productive work environment for the office or home office.
A Final Perspective
The Precision 5470 is the latest addition to Dell’s Precision 5000 series.
Dell Precision 5000 workstations sit between the entry-level 3000 series and the high-end 7000 series. But the 5000 series has never been “mid-range”. The 5000 models have always delivered performance,
portability, and style.
The 14-inch Precision 5470 delivers serious portability. It has the same sleek styling as the 5570 and 5770. With an impressive RTX A1000 GPU and the same CPU options and memory capacity as the Precision 5570 and 5770, the Precision 5470 delivers performance.
It is small. It is light. It packs a punch.
