IBC 2022 provided a meeting place for customers to put their hands on solutions and discuss problems with exhibitors like Dell. Let’s take a look at what Dell technologies had to say.
A total solution – one booth
First an observation: Dell is one of the few companies to offer a solution covering every aspect of a customer’s computing, networking and storage needs. It certainly is the only company which can do so in every worldwide geography.
I spoke with Dell’s CTO for Media and Entertainment in the America’s, Tom Burns. He spoke of customer’s needs converging into a Cloud or Hybrid Cloud computing and data management environment. Dell’s solutions for infrastructure support clients from truck to data center to cloud.

He also points to the NVIDIA partnership at IBC. Thanks to NVIDIA, Dell can demonstrate how the power of NVIDIA GPUs support a secure edge-computing environment using powerful remote workstations. The partnership also enabled Dell to demonstrate NVIDIA’s Omniverse Enterprise for team collaboration in an immersive environment.
Workstations everywhere
Dell also placed a focus on the new desktop and mobile workstations. In the mobile family, nearly every model was on display.
Dell changed the form-factor of two important models. In the desktop replacement 7000 series, the 15-inch Precision 7560 is replaced by the 16-inch Precision 7670. In the thin and light 5000 series, the new 14-inch Precision 5470 was available for visitors to test drive.
Both models are new formats for Dell customers in 2022. There is a difference between looking at the data sheet on a computer and having the machine in hand.
The Precision 5470 has a fully powered 45-watt Intel Core i9 and the brand-new NVIDIA RTX A1000 GPU. The Precision 7670 provides a bit more screen real estate while maintaining a compact format for a desktop replacement mobile workstation.
For comparison, the new 16-inch 7670 model is somewhat deeper and slightly less wide than the 15-inch model that it replaces. It weighs just 150 grams more. For all practical purposes, customers get more screen at nearly the same size and weight.
The Precision 5670 delivers a 16-to-10 ratio, 3840x2400 pixel resolution display. This can be driven by a new NVIDIA RTX A5500 GPU, 128 GB of RAM, and a 55-watt, 12th generation Intel Core i9-12950HX processor.
The highlight for desktop workstations was the new AMD-based Precision 7865 with the AMD Threadripper Pro 5995WX processor with 64 cores running at a maximum 4.5 GHz frequency. The processor supports up to 2 TB of memory although the highest memory configuration on the Dell site in the USA was 512 GB.
For graphics, Dell supports up to an NVIDIA RTX A6000 GPU with a head-spinning 48 GB of graphics memory. On the Dell site, it’s possible to order dual RTX A6000 graphics if your applications leverage that much graphics power.
