It may be the smallest 17-inch workstation on the market today. What technology has Dell packed into the latest thin and light 5760 model?

Thin. Light. But not a lightweight.

To properly imagine the Precision 5760’s size, think about sliding a 17-inch workstation into a 15-inch travel sleeve. That is the Precision 5760.

This second-generation Precision 5760 adds higher performance graphics, computing and display technology along with excellent memory capacity, storage capacity, and interesting connectivity.

This article describes the main technology features and compact design. In other articles, we’ll look at the performance and explore why this is a mobile workstation that you will love

It may look like a 15-inch workstation, but the Precision 5760 is perhaps the most compact 17-inch mobile workstation on the market.

A bump in graphics is a jump in performance

GPU performance is critical. The Precision 5760 features NVIDIA’s (17.4 billion transistor) RTX A3000 GPU.

Comparing it to the Precision 5750’s NVIDIA RTX 3000, we have:

The new architecture and increase in transistors deliver the performance boost for the Precision 5760.

Next-gen CPU with PCIe 4.0

This model supports Intel’s 11th generation Core and Xeon processors. At the high-end, our test system came equipped with a Core i9-11950H.

This 8-core CPU has a base clock speed of 2.6 GHz and a Turbo clock speed of 5.0 GHz. It also supports the Xeon equivalent, the Xeon W-11955M. This generation of Intel processors supports PCIe 4.0.

Capacity in both storage and memory

Imagine a 17-inch mobile workstation that slips into a 15-inch travel sleeve and supports 8 TB of fast SSD storage! If your work uses large data sets or huge video files, then you’ll love this feature.

And 64 GB of 3200 MHz RAM will do the job for most high-end applications. Taken together, there is little room to complain about the Precision 5760’s storage and memory capacity.

Ultra-small 17-inch InfinityEdge 16x10 display

This workstation is exceptionally small due to Dell’s InfinityEdge display. At the same time, it supports a very high resolution 3840x2400, 16x10 ratio display.

There is a 1920x1200 display option, … but why would you want that?

Modern, slim, and fast connectivity with a bonus

Dell’s InfinityEdge display makes the Precision 5760 100% display, 0% wasted space.

Dell put four Thunderbolt 4.0 ports along with an SD card on the 5760. Thunderbolt 4.0 provides several advantages. The ports are the smallest option, they are the fastest option, and they eliminate the need for a dedicated power connection.

A Thunderbolt docking station could provide a one-click connection in the office or home-office to external displays, networking, storage, and other peripherals. But Dell understands that you want to be productive as soon as you power up the Precision 5760 for the first time.

For this reason, every Precision 5760 ships with Dell’s D20 dongle that connects your Thunderbolt 4.0 ports to an HDMI display and USB-A peripherals. The dongle is compact which allows it to travel with you everywhere.

Microphones, a camera, sensors, speakers, a security lock, and cooling vents are placed discretely across the 5760.

The Precision 5760 comes with a 90W or a 130W power supply depending on configuration. Many 15-inch workstations, not to mention 17-inch workstations, come with heavier 150W or 200W power supplies. This may seem like a minor point, but remember, that power supply is going into your computer bag, too!

A Final Perspective

Whether you look at this workstation as a compact 17-inch machine or a 15-inch workstation with a 17-inch display doesn’t really matter. The Dell Precision 5760 packs a high-performance workstation into an incredibly compact design.
